Mac user always bragging that Mac is better then Windows, both interface and security. Once there was someone who told me to switch to Mac, with a quote “Once you try it, you’ll never let go”. Yeah well… I was raise with all my computer knowledge using Windows platform. I’ve tried to play with Mac twice and I keep getting the interface missing.
Anyway, do you know about the “Hack a Computer” competition occurs on last March 26th-28th at CanSecWest Vancouver 2008? The game is simple, all the players have to do is successfully hack into a computer and they get to keep it, with a $20, 000 bonus on top of it. The purpose of it is to reveal possible vulnerabilities in the system so that the vendor can secure them.
3 computers were presented at the contest - Sony VAIO VGN-TZ37CN running Linux Ubuntu 7.10, Fujitsu U810 running Vista Ultimate SP1 and MacBook Air running OSX 10.5.2.
And the result?
With all the “how good is a Mac” advertisement, Charlie Miller gets into the Mac in just 2 minutes!
Shane Macaulay took 2 days to crack into Windows.
Two computers with 2 new owners. But what about VAIO?
It was said that cracking Linux is quite a task… and no one manage to crack it.
So how good is a Mac?
With the two critical vulnerabilities currently at stake, It’s good alright…. for IT dummies. |
